About Jonathan-After a successful 10-year career in the insurance world, Jonathan May decided to go into business for himself as a full-time entertainer, based out of Des Moines IA. For the last 15 years, he has traveled the Midwest as a professional full-time Magician, performing over 400 shows a year at casinos, clubs, and corporate parties! Although still licensed, Jonathan no longer is active in the Insurance world, but he LOVES to share his enthusiasm towards it through his classes with Cape School for continued education. His high energy and fun-filled CE classes have found a local “following” and he has made several trips to Duluth over the last few years. MORNING COURSE: Controlling the Ethics of Insurance Fraud Perpetration (1036580)

Description: This course explores the ethics held by perpetrators of insurance fraud.  The ethical view of insurance fraud nationally is summarized.  Fraud enforcement activities are reviewed in the areas of property insurance, automobile insurance, health insurance and life insurance.  A detailed look at the ethic of insurance fraud perpetrators is undertaken.  The methods of accomplishing insurance fraud by these perpetrators are examined.  Methods for enforcing the ethic of honesty and care by recognizing fraud red flags and by implementing internal controls conclude the course.

AFTERNOON COURSE: Insurance Coverage for Mold and Water Damage

Time: 1pm-5pm
General Credits: MN – 4, WI – 4
Description: In the course Repairing Water Damage, the insurance agent will learn about mold and water damage.  The insurance coverage from direct damage and indirect loss will be discussed along with mold mitigation and clean up.  Also included in this course is information about flood and water damage.   NFIP Limits, basic coverages, and exclusions will be discussed as well as claim tips and mitigation to prevent further problems.  This course will conclude with insurance suggestions to provide better coverage in the instance of water damage.

MORNING COURSE: Applying Ethical Principles to your insurance business (1025759)

Description: This course provides summations of ethical and moral philosophies and decision models as applied to the insurance business. It utilizes several insurance and ethics exercises to aid the insurance licensee to recognize core values, use moral reasoning and exercise moral decision-making, identify components of ethical systems in business, exercise professional judgment, avoid unethical sales, develop business purpose statements and ethical codes, and make ethical insurance business decisions.  Ethics are defined and distinguished from civil, administrative, criminal and other statutory law.  Ethical philosophies that are utilized in and influence business ethics today are summarized.  Normative ethical theories used in business are explained.  Profit maximization as an ethic is considered. Stakeholder interests and social contract theory are used to develop and apply an ethical business structure for insurance businesses of all sizes. Ethical principles are made alive and applied to inform and enrich the ethical business practices of today’s insurance licensee.

AFTERNOON COURSE: Pinpointing Claims Fraud Schemes (1030942)

Description: This course describes claims fraud schemes and activities in life, health, property and casualty insurance, workers compensation and government insurance plans. It explains the costs and scope of this pervasive problem.  Many examples of recent fraud cases are provided, and methods of identifying fraud in various insurance lines are explored.  Current anti-fraud techniques and processes are explored, including important technological innovations in fraud detection. The course also explains claims fraud penalties and enforcement activities. Case studies are provided where the student can evaluate claims scenarios and identify factors that indicate potential fraud.
